"The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing."
So what is the "main thing"? Now I know we do not consider God a thing or place the Supreme Being on such a lowly level; however, is it not true that God ends up competing with "things" within our lives. Actually, God does not even compete, He just steps aside as we bring things in. For with God it is not a competition, it is one or the other.
I do believe that God allows us to have things, but the moment they take over, He steps out. That simple. Do the things "take over" since they are inanimate and lifeless, or do we begin to place them as supreme? Here is the question, "Am I willing to part with all things so that God is the only thing?" If I cannot part with all things, then God is not the main thing for He is the One and Only.
Many of us have a lot of things, nothing wrong with that. But the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. "What does it profit a man if he should gain the whole world, but lose his own soul." Oh oh, inspection time!

Woe!! Ouch, boy that one hurt. All to often though it is so true, way to true. Our "things" become so important, that we forget about who the Main Thing is.
Hey, Bryan and Marsha,
This is a great post. Very true. It's a constant battle!
